How Much Does Synthetic or Artificial Turf Cost (Seattle)?
What are the different qualities of material and installation? How do they affect cost? What is the cost of synthetic Turf? Let’s answer those questions below:
First, let’s set up the parameters for this exercise. In this scenario we are removing a 15’x15’ flat square patch in someone’s easily accessible front yard.
$2.90/sq ft-$3.50/sq ft
The project starts with the removal of the sod and earth below to make space for the sub-grade. This is going to cost you between $500 to $800 for the labor and dump costs to get rid of the dirt.
Next you’re going to have to pay for the barrier between organic material and the inorganic installation. This varies because we’re talking about 5/8 minus gravel, landscape fabric, and maybe mole mesh. My experience is that if your subgrade is thick enough in the PNW our moles aren’t strong enough to blast through the rock, so we can ditch the mole mesh. Let’s skip to the landscape fabric. The nicer stuff is going to come in 8’ or 10’ width roles and at a minimum of 50’ so we’re going to have some waste here. Next you have to calculate the cubic yards of gravel (15’x15’x6” divided by 27). After you have your material you need to compact with a professional compactor (not a jumping jack). This portion of the project is going to cost you between $800-$1,000.
Finally, you’re going to order and cut to shape your turf. You are not going to be able to custom order a piece of turf to fit your space, so we’re going to go bigger and cut the waste. Our 15’x15’ install was specifically chosen because the turf can be purchased in the 15’ width size. The minimum roll length is usually 40’ long, so there’s a lot of waste. [Quick Note: some whole sellers will custom cut a piece for you but charge you extra for the amount you purchase so a lot of times this savings is a wash.]
Once you have your cut piece it is then laid in place, glued and nailed, then the infill will be brushed in. Infill costs will vary dramatically, but this portion will cost you between $3,500 to $4,000.
